2017 Chapter Officer Leadership Training
COLT (Chapter Officer Leadership Training) facilitates chapter leaders in identifying and developing their personal skills and leadership styles. Individuals discover how their skills and styles complement those of their teammates so that together, they may most effectively serve their chapter, school, and community. Chapter officer teams work together to strategically plan for their year of service, and consider how they might engage other students. Specifically, officers will create plans using the AET strategic planning tool and learn to develop and use committees.
Four sessions of COLT will be offered in May at The Leadership Center in Aurora, Nebraska. Each Session will begin on Day 1 with registration from 8:00-9:00 AM, with the conference beginning at 9:00 AM and will conclude on Day 2 by 4:00 PM.

Registration will open at noon (CST) on March 7, and will remain open through 11:59 pm (CST) on May 1. No on-site registrations will be accepted. The 2017 cost of attendance is $63 for registrants not needing a StrengthsFinder(R) code, and $78 for registrants needing a StrengthsFinder(R) code. No refunds will be available for cancellations made after May 1. Invoices will be available after May 1 and payment must be postmarked no later than June 15.

Teachers: Use the process below to register your students for COLT.
- Click the button above and Log in.
- To log in, use your firstname.lastname (e.g. bill.smith) as your User ID. Your password should be the same as last year. If you do not know what it is or are a new teacher, click “Forgot your password?” after entering your User ID and it should be immediately emailed to you.
- If you do not receive your password via email, contact Roxie at firstname.lastname@example.org and she can manually reset it for you.
- Choose Step 2: Event Registration
- Choose a COLT Session and Student Registration
- Drag a student’s name from the right column/list of students to an Office.
- If you do not yet know which students will be in which office, simply choose any student to hold your registration spot. Once you know your correct officer team, drag the placeholder student out of the office and immediately drag the correct student in the correct position. BE SURE TO LOG BACK IN AND CORRECT YOUR OFFICERS PRIOR TO MAY 1.
- You can drag multiple names onto the same office if necessary.
- If you do not see a student listed, click the "View/Add Students" button in the top-right corner.
- Registration is automatically saved.
- Registration may fill for any session at any time.
- Also register attending advisors and chaperones for the same COLT session.
- Check your registration by clicking "Step 3 - Summary".
- Invoices will be emailed after registration closes. You can update your registration any time before registration closes.
My chapter is more than 2 ½ hours away from The Leadership Center in Aurora and we’ll need to travel in the night before. Can we stay at TLC?
Yes! The Leadership Center is generously allowing chapters to stay in the cabins free of charge the night before the conference if it’s necessary for your travel. We recommend using this option if your chapter will travel more than 2 ½ hours to get to TLC. Please contact The Leadership Center by calling 402.694.3934 to make these lodging arrangements. Arrangements must be made prior to the conference. All chapters choosing this option must stay in the cabins and teachers are responsible for supervising their own students. All registrants will be required to move to their assigned housing the morning of the conference.
How do I make lodging arrangements for the conference?
Lodging arrangements are the responsibility of each individual chapter. Please note that Day 1 will conclude with Reflections ending at 9:30 PM, and a dance and pool party being hosted from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM.

When and where will we check in for COLT on site?
Registration will be open in the back of the Gym from 8:00 am to 8:55 am on the first day of the conference. We’ll look forward to confirming your attendance numbers, providing you with name tags and t-shirts and sharing additional conference information at that time.
All students must provide a completed medical release form upon check in. Please place them in a binder or folder for the entire chapter officer team and provide the packet to staff at the check-in table.

Pre-Work Tasks and Items to Bring
- All officers must have completed the StrengthsFinder ® assessment and bring their top five themes and descriptions with them. Codes will be provided to advisors per their COLT registration order. StrengthsFinder ® results for this year and the past two will be available at the conference for those students who cannot recall their results.
- Please ensure that the team has access to a few devices on which to access the Internet and the AET. (These sessions indicated with a double asterisk.**)
- Each team should bring a chapter planning calendar, including any identified dates that already exist for the 2017-2018 school year.
- During the conference, a Chapter Turn the Key event will occur. Prior to COLT, please guide chapter officers in submitting your chapter’s best practices and ideas in the on-line form found here. Each chapter should then come prepared to present one of their best practices/ideas to a small group of COLT attendees. The presentations should be a maximum of three minutes in length and there will not be access to a projector or screen. Be creative!
What to Bring

Members are required to bring to COLT a medical release form and code of conduct form, which is available here. Students and parents must sign the code of conduct form. Please review with your administration any procedures to follow in a discipline situation. Advisors WILL BE responsible for handling any discipline situation that occurs. Nebraska Department of Education policy does not allow for FFA staff members or contract workers to be involved in direct disciplinary actions for students attending a conference. Based on additional Department policy, a member of the FFA Board of Directors, or an advisor appointed by the Board, will be required to be at each COLT session to assist in handling any discipline situations.
Advisors are responsible for supervising their own students during COLT. No room monitoring will be provided by the Nebraska FFA Association or its staff or volunteers. Advisors are expected to assist with supervision at all times during the conference activities!

What is the attire for COLT?
For a majority of the conference, students may wear appropriate school attire. Students should wear FFA official dress for the banquet and opening ceremonies demonstrations. If your students represent a new chapter that has not yet secured official dress, they may wear official dress, less their jacket or they may wear dressy business attire. Students will also want to bring clothing for recreational activities.
Students will be invited to swim and dance during the evening of the conference. Please bring appropriate attire for these activities.
What will teachers do during the conference?
Teachers are invited to observe any student portion of the conference; teachers are also asked to attend specific team time portions of the conference. These times will be identified and shared with you during the teacher in-service.
